Isla Privacy Policy

Isla is a local-first API key and secret manager designed for macOS. This policy explains how your data stays on your device, what we don't collect, and how to reach us with questions.

Last Updated: April 20, 2026

1. Local-First Architecture

Isla stores all your secrets and app data locally on your Mac using the system Keychain for secure storage. Your API keys, secrets, workspaces, labels, and metadata are processed and retained locally as part of normal app operation.

Storage Details:

Secret values are stored in macOS Keychain using the service identifier "com.isla.secret-values"

Workspace and metadata are stored locally using Core Data

The app requires local authentication (Touch ID or Mac password) to unlock and access your secrets

Auto-lock functionality activates after 60 minutes of inactivity

No Cloud Services: Isla does not operate a cloud service for storing or synchronizing your secrets. If we add cloud sync or backup features in the future, we will update this policy and clearly describe the changes before enabling them.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Isla does not require an account to use any functionality.

No Secret Collection: We do not collect, transmit, or store your API keys or secret values on our servers for any purpose.

No Analytics or Tracking: Isla does not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or behavioral tracking pixels. We do not track how you use the app or collect usage data.

No Marketing Profiles: We do not use your secrets or app content to build advertising or marketing profiles.

Local File Processing Only: The .env import feature processes files locally on your device; no file contents are transmitted externally.

3. Communications and Support

If you email us for support or feedback, we receive only the information you explicitly include in your message (such as your email address and message content). Please avoid sending secret values unless we specifically request them to diagnose an issue. Even then, consider using test credentials or redacting sensitive information.

4. Purchases and Payments

If Isla offers paid features, purchases will be processed through Apple via the Mac App Store (or another specified platform). Payment information is handled by the platform provider under their terms and privacy policy; we do not receive your full payment card details.

5. Security and Your Responsibility

While Isla provides secure local storage using macOS Keychain and authentication, you are responsible for:

Device security (passcodes, FileVault, screen sharing)

Physical access to your Mac

Backup practices and security

How you handle exported or copied secrets

Important: When you copy secrets to your clipboard, Isla automatically clears the clipboard after 60 seconds if the content hasn't changed.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Isla evolves. When making material changes, we will post the updated policy and revise the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
